Who went from catering apprentice to successful chef?

Read how Hannah Stuart went from being a Hospitality and Catering student to a full time Chef at a successful local restaurant.

Having completed her first year of Sixth Form at Beckfoot School in Bingley, Hannah made the decision to enrol on a Food Preparation and Cookery course at Bradford College.

Having successfully completed the Level 2 qualification Hannah progressed onto the Food and Drink Service course before finally completing a Level 3 Professional Cookery course. Talking about her decision to enrol at the college, Hannah said: I had heard lots of good things about the college and I liked the range of courses available. It was important to choose a college that was local to me and that offered me the opportunity to progress to higher level courses.

During her time as a catering student, Hannah benefited from learning in a state-of-the-art training kitchen, restaurant and café bar in Level 6. Providing an exceptional training and commercial enterprise Level 6 provides outstanding facilities for customers and trainees alike. Open as a fully operating business, Level 6 includes: a Restaurant, Café Bar, Hair Salon, Nail Bar and Beauty Therapy Salon which are run by students training at the College.

In 2007 Hannah took part in a college residential to Belgium. Hannah said: “The trip was brilliant; it was a great experience and enabled me to learn from other cultures. The visit taught me new skills, cemented my friendships and boosted my confidence.”

Upon completing her studies at Bradford College, Hannah secured a job at Marriott Hollins Hall Hotel and Country Club in Baildon, Bradford. Hannah developed her skills whilst working at the Marriott for a year and a half before accepting a job as Chef-de-Partie at La Rue in Saltaire.

Hannah dreams of one day opening her own restaurant and achieving the kind of success that Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsay enjoy.

Reflecting on her time at Bradford College, Hannah said: “I loved my time at college. My tutors taught me to believe in myself and work hard in order to achieve and they were right! I feel my success is down to the skills I developed at college and I would encourage others to follow their dreams, work hard and stay positive.”
